Hi loves! Today's post is little bit different as I'm sharing my experience with Art of Colors. Its makeup school in Netherlands and they have 2 locations one in Amsterdam and another in Hoorn.
Art of Colors was founded 2005 by Judith and Jos. They teamed up with educators and photographers to give their students the experience being working makeup artist.
I started my journey in Art of Colors in September and my teacher is Flavio Miguel and he is amazing makeup artist. You can check he's instagram out here to see his work.
The lessons are once a week in the evenings and last 3 hours. I always need to bring my model, which can be hard at times. The school does have model bank where we can contact with models, but so far I personally haven't had much luck with it. Once a model was late and it was my first photoshoot and I ended up looking a model on the street, which was not fun experience to be honest, but at least I passed my exam. And other time a model said she will come, but she didn't come in the end and didn't even let me know she is not coming. I mostly ask my friends to come and they have been so awesome and supportive. But I know my class mates have had good luck with the model bank and have had beautiful models.
Let's talk about the kit. Art of Colors works with different brand to provide amazing makeup kits for the students. When I started there was only MAC and I really do like my kit. It has everything I need to start out and it was easy for me to add the products I needed to it, like more colorful eyeshadow palette. Now days you can also choose a makeup kit from Nars, Inglot and also MAC Cosmetics.
One of the things I like most about Art of Colors is the internships they gives us. I have been so far to 2 internships: H&M Amfi fashion show and other was also Amfi fashion show. Both where amazing experiences and you can feel and see how it works backstage.
When I started they just vamped up their program and its more modern and one of my favorite lessons was the color theory and I first was thinking we are going to play with color. We did play with the primary colors to create a matching foundation color for our models. This was so unique experience and we ended up doing full face with just these colors. It was so creative experience and makes you think outside of the box.
I also love the special events I have had the chance to go, because of Art of Colors. We had student lab in MAC Cosmetics, which was supper fun and we got to know all the MAC products and in the end we had discount to buy products we needed for our kit. There was also 2 events in the school MAC Cosmetics Trend Event and you can see a video about it here. Then there was the Nars Holiday Masterclass and you can see little video on it here. Both events where amazing! There is one more event coming up with the school, if you guys want I can make a separate post about it. Let me know, if you are interested in the comments section.
Art of colors also provides hair styling lessons, which I think I might take. I'm not that much into hair, but its a nice skill to have. I always have been bit jealous of people who can create amazing hair styles.
I think its a great school to start your makeup artist career and you can get the support you need. I think it's so important for a school to provide you with work experience and they do it. I'm happy with the program, my teacher and the extra perks coming with the course I'm taking. If you are based in Netherlands and are interested taking a closer look of the school you can find all the info about it here. They also provide master classes for hair and makeup. Like I mentioned you can find all the info about the lessons on their webpage. They also do open days, which are great to see the location and ask any questions you might have.
If you have any questions to me, let me know in the comment section down below and I'll see you in my nest post!
Thank you for reading! xo's

DeleteThat school sounds amazing! When I look for a short course, I also look if they can help me get an internship to apply what I learned from them.
